Kitchen: We Will Make It Fit
Jan. 9th, 2014 10:52 pm
This was the status last night, when I was in E'hoven with Nachtvisser. Dad had already removed the top cabinets and continued today with the bottom ones.
Today a woman from the company Ikea hires to do the installing of actual kitchens dropped by. The good news is that I measured pretty well. The bad news is that because the Faktum standard cupboards are bright white, and I chose an off-white front panel (Stät) the cupboards didn't fit anymore, if I recall what she said correctly. My kitchen would extend 2 cm past the corner of the wall, which is not very much at all but enough to get on my nerves at some point or other.
We re-designed parts of the new kitchen. The 40cm cupboard was replaced by a 30cm one, and now instead of 2 cm too much there's 8 cm left on one end of the kitchen. The whole thing will be placed on blocks, so my counter top is at 105 cm. (Whoa, oh yeah!)
The plints at the bottom and top of the kitchen will be sawn to size.
That just leaves us the job of hewing into the wall and making sure all the electric outlets and water and drain points are at the right place.
Which is what we hope to be doing on Sunday next.
I've rented a "Sleuvenzaag" for the weekend-- a tool that cuts two parallel lines into a wall, so you can just chisel the middle part out and put your drains (electricity wires, etc.) in that space. If anyone is able to help out, we can use a couple of hands for the chiseling, for removing tiles, for scraping wallpaper off the walls and for stirring our coffee.
Bring ear plugs if you have them.
