Our first Brado in Venray didn't go as well as planned. I was impressed with our progress this week because we really did train hard. However, when we started our warming up the floor was very full which aggravated Bernie.
We started with Debutants 5, and instead of the usual order Quickstep - Slow Waltz - Tango they had shuffled it up a bit. We started with a slow waltz in the third heat, followed immediately by a tango. Then we had to wait for the other two heats to do their tango's and continued with a quickstep after the two heats had done theirs. And we screwed up our quickstep!
It was the dance we practiced most, we got an amalgamation for (series of steps), and we just didn't do it right. Ah, what can you say....

As expected we didn't continue to the semi-finals right away for our class, but were asked to return for a second try. This time there were only two heats -- every couple who didn't go straight through to the semi-finals -- and we started again with the slow waltz. Our tango went well, and our quickstep was great. In one of the breaks we'd tried our hand at it again and I urged Bernie to do a lot of turns, a lot of running finishes, just to step it up a bit. It worked out rather well on the floor when it counted, but when we returned to our reserved table, Wim told us the entire slow waltz had been off-beat.
Well fuuu...

It is really strange I hadn't noticed, as I'm usually pretty good at these things, but there you have it. We didn't go through to the semi-finals, which was just and fair.
Femke and Erik (Standard, C-class, Reiniers dance school in Helmond) both said that our technique was better than average, but dancing off-beat is really killer for your results. It was good to hear them encourage us, though.

Another great thing about today is that I recognised a lot of clothing from QueenE on the floor. There were several couples dressed almost entirely in outfits from the store, and I saw a lot of shoe bags with our logo on it too.
We were done by the time 11.30 rolled around, but we stayed and chatted for a while before going home. Tonight is another regular dancing lesson, so I'm sure Wim has got a few things to teach us after seeing us out on the floor today.

I did good and rewarded myself with a sandwich in the car. And now there's tea and World of Tanks.
