Thursday night after my appointments I hurried home for a quick dinner (lettuce soup with cream and ham) from the freezer and I very quickly finished the hem of my new dancing skirt under the serger. I was impressed with the babylock my serger made, which is a good thing especially when you're in a hurry. So often it just doesn't go right and you're left with a screwed up hem and no time at all.

Our dancing lesson started at 19:30 and by the time we were done, it was 22:15. Dancing teacher Wim is notoriously bad at looking at the clock, (and although I doubt we started promptly on time) the extra half hour to three quarters of an hour did not go amiss.
I did dance myself a blister though, and I noticed that after the intense training my legs were getting tired. When Bernie insisted on another Quickstep, my legs just refused to move in time, and we had to forfeit.

Last night we met up at the dance school again for the New Year's ball. An excuse to have a night of dancing, with free cheese palette (not that I had any) that was not busy at all. The participants were of the 40+ category and did a dance here and there, opting to sit and chat a lot in between. Harm was there as well; he's the guy that took me out for a spin back in March when I first came looking at Hellendoorn and gave me my "nobody puts Baby in the corner" moment.
The number of couples on the floor was low, but we still had a lot on our mind. Everything from the previous night's lesson was still tumbling through our mind and especially for Bernie it was hard. Either I have an effortless grace that allows me to follow quite easily, or my poise and posture are better, but where Bernie got a lot of pointers from Wim, I just got a remark to stretch my legs backward in the tango and watch my swivels.
And some of my problems with my poise on the floor emerge because Bernie slouches forward and I just can't get closer to him. Try moving pelvis-to-pelvis when someone is hunched forward... I'm not here for limbo-dancing!
What was really good was that we got the Slow Waltz down pat and we aced our running finish in the Quickstep. It's a simple running finish (there are three varieties) but it makes for a lot of speed, and when you got a lot of speed, you stand out on the floor.

We danced for another two hours, making for nearly five hours of practice this week. By the end of it, my feet are shredded to little bits, and they only have today to recuperate!
It's not so much the blisters anymore. The pad under my foot at the inside is just tenderised like a steak. Like walking on bruises.

So tonight there will be a footbath, an early night and tomorrow we dance in Venray! If you want to visit, check out the flyer. We dance in the morning between 10 and 12.
