Crying "fire!" once too many
Dec. 2nd, 2013 07:38 pmI'm starting to get (too) used to the fire alarm going off. So far I've only had one nightly adventure when the fire warning system malfunctioned in Guus' room, but for the rest the alarm has gone off for people making pancakes, people cooking taco's or random malfunctions.
It is rather alarming to realise that while the fire alarm is blaring loudly, you're just sauntering down to the kitchen to check on your laundry, in stead of putting on shoes and a coat and going for the emergency exit.
(I walked down the emergency exit last week and fell flat on my face, as the boards we put down as a terrace have grown a greenish slime and they are far too slippery. But that as an aside.)
Tomorrow and Wednesday Landlord Harry will be checking the fire sensors in each room with a company, and they expect several warnings. I am glad to be at work tomorrow, and I hope this fixes the problem of malfunctioning sensors. Bas the Internet Monopoly guy has been cutting stray wires in the ceiling at random before he left, so it's unsurprising the things are going off at weird times. Half past seven is not a time we're usually cooking, down here in NL.
