Protective
Oct. 28th, 2013 12:35 amWe're currently experiencing heavy wind leading up to South-west Storm, something to be Feared in the Netherlands. It can get pretty gruesome, although the last major flooding during such a "Zuidwesterstorm" was in 1953, if memory serves.
However, when several people warn me to watch out on the road, I'm paying attention. Not so much because I'm being warned or because the weather might indeed be a little difficult, but mostly because several warnings coming right after one another usually makes my spiritual ears perk up and I know it's For Real. Better pay attention, these kind of warnings make sense.
However, it seems (so far) that it's all been about several of my friends and neighbours being very protective. I'm a woman alone, I drive a smallish car, it's bad weather...
I get it. I appreciate it. Really, I do.
But sometimes I wonder whether they would say the same thing to Tim. Or to any other man. 'Watch out on the road, there's heavy gusts of wind'.
I must admit, having it in my back over the Zaltbommel bridge was nice, but the winds down here in Brabant were nothing compared to those "above the rivers". Because we've got forests and trees and stuff. So there. Word.
And they mean well. So, um, thanks.
