There were of course also some good moments on the Drachenfest and we mustn't forget them!
It was so great to spend a week outdoors -- most of my colleagues wouldn't understand loving the sleeping in tents, but nothing gets me happier than getting out of bed in the morning and putting my bare feet in wet grass. This is right at the top of "things that make me insanely happy".
During the week, in the midst of all the crazy larp things that were going on, I tried imagining being back home, at work, behind the sewing machine. I just couldn't. I guess that's the perfect way of celebrating being on holiday. A true break from it all.

Despite waking up with a horrible outbreak of rosacea on Tuesday morning I was very pleased with my overall look. Granted, I threw the mirror away in disgust when I saw the swollen skin next to my nose, with white 'pimples'. The heat from the previous day combined with it being locked up by the sunscreen I was forced to wear probably was the cause. It slowly dissipated, also because I rubbed the skin until the white dots were ...smeared all over? I cleaned my face from paint and sunscreen every day, and it didn't return in full force, but it was very clear my skin hated me. Until I started using the Clarins SPF 50+ sunscreen. That stuff rocks my world!

After working so hard on my costume bits, I think they deserve fair mention. I had an all-new costume, only recycling my trusted chain mail and adding new costume parts to the look. In previous years I wore my Leafy Surcoat a lot, because of the heat, and I had made my gambeson with short sleeves and a cotton interfacing so it would be more cool. It worked beautifully -- I wore it most days without breaking too much of a sweat and putting on chainmail and kidney belt made me Battle Ready within two minutes.

Good pictures were hard to find, until Laris was so kind to put this online:

Drachenfest
On the Green Gate, looking down on the masses.
Many thanks to Laris for this image!

The bracers you see were a late addition -- made on Sunday night and finished on Drachenfest. You can also see my new skinny-jeans-really-these-are-larp pants working well and the new gambeson rocking it until the calf! The proportions are awesome too. I don't look tall & overweight but just like a normal kid in armour. I can't believe how that works.
I am far more pleased with the look this year...but it's nowhere near finished yet.

The war-paint also underwent some change. I stole the idea from some Hell On Wheels Indians and half from Arjuna (Nienke) and Tim did most of it with his fingers, but I love how fierce it made me look. The hair was also a great success. The front half was braided into cornrows by Femke from the Beauty Inn in Bakel and the rest braided into dreads by Ivren and Diverteddreamer. It was tied up far enough backwards that it didn't fall into my eyes, but loose enough to be wild. Only during a ritual and when building tents I tied it up. The feathers Femke added worked well (bright green and white and reddish brown) too, and I should have used more of the hair chalk.
All in all, I am very pleased!

Beriadanwen gets more costume every year, and currently is boxed in just 4 Samla's which will no doubt increase over the years. Outfits include:
- Summer gambeson -- short sleeved but long-hemmed, to be combined with scalemail skirt and chainmail. Haori optional.
- Winter gambeson -- long sleeved but short-hemmed, to be combined with waffenrock, scalemail skirt and chainmail. Haori optional.
- Leafy Surcoat
- Down-time dress -- to be combined with Zuippakkie velvet (and sequined lining) coat that looks like Galadriel or rabbit fur shoulderpiece
- Formal coat -- with rabbit fur shoulders and gold clasps.

But we're not done yet! Projects for next year include:
- I need a new kidney belt since the one I have is buckling under the strain of gravity (because just a sports bra doesn't cut it)
- More armour! We're not there yet with just bracers and a helmet. I might need a breastplate after all.
- A new, grand velvet cloak with gold trim. Just because I can't use the velvet for a coat...
- My formal coat needs adjusting, the hem is too simple and it looks too OT. I have fabric left, so this should be do-able.
- A new overcoat to wear under my chainmail, taking my outfit one notch down from "Sun Elf" to match the rest of the Anarquendor. Possibly multiple layers of linen sewn together at the shoulder seam in various shades of green and brown.
