...and we're back!
Jul. 29th, 2013 11:07 amSafely home, stating that I hate the German A40 with a passion (not only does it swing north and south while heading mostly due west, but it changes its mind about the maximum speed every kilometer or so).
We had so much play internally and with our friends from the Calennar, and the weather was so hot, I didn't participate in more than three battles and I had to skip the Endslacht. Hot, hot, hot weather, temperatures well above 30°C but as of Wednesday we enjoyed a daily thunderstorm which cooled us off, culminating in one hell of a big bang on Saturday night, when we saw it coming from far off, realised it was actually accompanied by heavy wind and rain, and had us securing tent lines, carrying stuff inside and incidentally helping out the neighbours who needed an ambulance.
I am so proud of my group, so very happy I was at the Drachenfest with these people. They are fun to be with, they invent great new ways of challenging eachother, and they carefully carry on getting shit done even when they're tired and it's hot. Setting up and breaking down went smoothly and we were all packed and ready to go by two o'clock, right when the next rainstorm hit the field. (There were rivers running down the road down the hill, and we couldn't see more than 100 meters ahead when we drove to the Burger King.)
ETA: Oh yes, my costume ROCKED! My new gambeson was wonderfully cool (short sleeves, thinner layers) and was the perfect model and size. I only wore my helmet once, and Estolador and I also made a pair of bracers the night before we left which I wore maybe twice. My new black coat was wonderful, and "made me look very tall", and my new pants, which fit so much like a glove I was afraid to rip them if it was warm and sweaty, have stretched in such a way they kept falling off my arse. ^^
