Goodbye sweet Dusty
Jun. 25th, 2013 10:09 pmTonight NoKey and I went to the vet that had Dusty in his care and let her die in her sleep, quite peacefully.

Dusty was not feeling so well this weekend, but when she was in the vet's care it turned out she was suffering from something far greater than we could imagine. At first she was diagnosed with kitty diabetes, but it turned out she couldn't see anymore either, and her dehydration and other symptoms pointed very much towards a brain tumour. The vet told us this can sometimes be treated in dogs, but for cats... it wasn't really an option.
She was lying in a cage quite peacefully when we got there and when she knew it was us she started purring quite loudly, more loudly than 'normal'. Although it was the best decision to not let her suffer any longer, it was still a very hard decision to make.
She went to sleep in NoKey's lap, and then she softly slipped away after the vet administered the final syringe to her IV.
Dusty was always a very haughty kitty. She decided when it was time to get her cuddles, and if she thought it wasn't time for cuddles then she would not even sit still for them and run as fast as she could. Dusty was often overshadowed by her mother, Lisa, who still quite actively seeks the attention of any human around. For Dusty it was usually time for petting when we were behind our computers or on the toilet.
She never was a good hunter, but she loved to be outdoors, even if it was raining, and would try and hide if I wanted to call her inside. When she purred, she never did so very loudly, but we could tell she loved the attention she got when she wanted it, and she'd lie upside down to claim it. If she wanted her belly petted, she would stand quite awkwardly high up on her legs and accept that "this is nice, human, but don't think I will lie down for it!"
She stole her mother's food more often than not, and was quite an active and sneaky kitty until the day when she suddenly wasn't any more.
Dusty was 12 years old, and we took her home to her mother. She will rest softly in NoKey's back yard.
