DITL: Heiligennacht
Dec. 26th, 2012 12:32 pmI made another Day In The Life documentation. I did one for Old Year's Day two years ago, and this time I chose the evening before Christmas. The 24th of December is the evening we always celebrate Christmas at my dad's house.
I used my SLR camera as well as my phonecam, and tried to make nifty collages of the pictures.

My alarm goes off at 8:25 am. I slept in, and NoKey's already off to his PT in Eindhoven. The morning shenanigans include finding my clothes in a pile of junk on the chair, and of course my morning COFFEE.

The cats are not awake.... I make a sandwich and watch an episode of Mad Men with my knitting to wake up a little more.

After updating LJ with some news, it's time for some chores. There are still dishes to be done from Palanthe's visit (although I did take care of the other half the evening previous) and the never-ending pile of laundry. Wash laundry. Dry laundry. Fold laundry. Clear away laundry. Repeat ad infinitum.

I need to call Randstad to arrange matters about my working hours, and I take a picture of a larp arrow. It's edited in Bibble and then I post about it on the Omen forum.

NoKey returns home after his physical therapy with some final groceries, and I make some tea while he says hello to our furry friends.

He re-installs our recently-fixed printer on my PC and I get around to filing some paperwork. The pile has been nudging me. I throw out a lot of envelopes and old receipts, and file the rest.

Time for lunch and more knitting!

It's time to get ready. I grab my neat clothes and take a shower, we throw some clean clothes in a bag as we'll be staying over for the night. Taking a train home at ten pm isn't an option if you're still at the table with dessert, after all.

Someone thought it was a perfect time to commit suicide on the day before Christmas (imagine having to clean up the left-overs of that act on such a day!) so the trains are a mess. We detour by way of Den Bosch, which doesn't take any longer in the end. The first train is packed tight, but the connecting train is empty enough so I can do some knitting.

My dad picks us up from the station and takes us to his house. The decorations are quite lovely, and the gifts are waiting for us on the dressoir. There are snacks like cubes of cheese and olives.

My dad films everything, and my brother shows off his new Lumix camera. (Hah! Mine is bigger!)
Detty is taking care of business in the kitchen and takes so much pride in her work we're not allowed to help her.

My brother Jos and his girlfriend Evelien.

My stepbrother Raphael and his girlfriend Marguarita.

My dad & Detty.

NoKey snaps a picture of the set-up at dinner, much to the delight of Raphael. The entree is a ragoût of mushrooms or chicken; the main course is pork in bell pepper sauce, which is very creamy, with potato gratin and beans. There are also mixed vegetables and sauce hollandaise.

After dinner, we watch the movie my dad made of last year's Christmas celebration, including funny notes about our performance on Monopoly. NoKey isn't feeling too well, so he takes a nap on the couch. Evelien does the same.

My dad plays "Als u begrijpt wat ik bedoel" for the people in 'sickbay', and the rest of us play a game of Monopoly. It was Jos' gift to my dad last year at Christmas, and we started a new tradition.
My brother played to win, getting most of the streets in the first few rounds and not wanting to negotiate and trade later on, costing us all a lot of money. In a few rounds, dad goes bankrupt and although I get to build a few houses, I can't keep up with my brothers. When I land on Jos' hotel, I quit, not having a very good time. (I was playing to have a good game, whereas my brother was playing to win. Not a good combo.)

It's past one am when I turn in and join NoKey on the sleeping couch downstairs in the garden room. He's already fast asleep. Goodnight!
