Mad cleaning spree

janestarzI love it when my friends come over. It gives me a good excuse to spend some time cleaning the house.
When we first moved in a year ago, I had made up my mind to clean the bathrooms regularly and keep up with the housework. One year on, Life has Happened, other stuff became more interesting and more fun, and hoovering the living room is a never-ending chore.
Friends of mine with pets will know exactly how much they contribute to the overall mess of the household. Whether your hamster has just redecorated the sawdust in his cage, the cats have brought in a bird, your parakeet had its yearly feather explosion, or your dog spent his night drooling all over the couch, their hairs and other mess get everywhere. Hairs accumulate into dust bunnies, who flee before any broom and multiply under cupboards. The one pile of barf you didn't find (by stepping into it) has left a brownish puddle somewhere in a corner. And gods forbid you have a hobby or job that involves cutting, grinding or shaving (although carpenters often work outside or in a toolshed), because it only adds to the mess. Hence the icon.
Still, once my hurricane was done, the couches were mostly hairless and cat-spittle free, the dust bunnies had been exterminated and the upstairs bathroom had had its quicky cleaning. I was ready to shower off the sweat of my activities, spunge and detergent in hand, because showering is no excuse to stop cleaning.
In the aftermath, I was very happy to have the evening free to sit with Anemoona in my very clean (for our standards) house and enjoy the company. She would be sleeping in the atelier room upstairs which was tidied and hoovered into oblivion. My work was not for naught and it only made the downtime so much more fun. No more cleaning for at least a week means I get more time to spend on other things! Hurrah!
In short: come on over, friends and family! My house needs to be cleaned sometimes.
