If I may, I will demolish a popular saying and create my own version:
No plan ever survives contact with the Muse.
This is actually a good thing. I had bought the following fabrics in June of 2011, planning to make a quilt out of them. The red has a flannel feel to it and the black would balance the solids out against the print.

When I was browsing through my quilt fabrics stash (now still small enough to fit into one bin, I cherish these days!) I found another purple solid and a printed text fabric. When this morning I was stuck on my Badger's Business costume project, Muse could not wait any longer and insisted on starting that third quilting project NOW.
And gee, didn't I still have...

So this is the plan. The pattern I'll be using is "Squares within squares 2" from the Quilter's cache. The printed text will be the backing, and because I've only got a meter of that, it means this will become a crib-sized quilt. (I looked that up today...)
*headdesk*
*tiny voice* I'm going to need a quilter's icon...
