Finishing off some WIPs
Sep. 22nd, 2012 09:43 pmIn January I blogged about 2012 being the Year of the WIP. Indicating that this was the year that I was going to finish off some of those pesky old WIPs lying around of course (and not 2012 being the year of never finishing a single project, which is kind of what the title suggested).
There's nothing quite like clearing out the atelier by finally finishing a few WIPs that have been lying around since forever.
I already finished Project Elf Chain, returned a WIP to its owner, finished a maroon tunic for Lanzaned and cut pieces out of the sleeves of the old mantua to test plant dyes, so despite not keeping people updated I was well underway!
What was just scraps of fabric before has now been turned into two lovely T-tunics which will be donated to Omen come October.

I cut the fabric for these tunics back in 2009...way back in the day when Dolle Griet was still a company in stead of a person.
And I blogged earlier this month about cutting up Nieske's old full-circle wool cloak. Turning the half-circle bit into a cloak was only an evening's work, but the other two quarter circles needed to have something done with them too.
This I did today. And I tried something I've been wanting to try my hand at for a few years: making an archer's cloak.
The two quarter circles were sewn in the back but I left a spot open in the seam near the waistline. All you have to do is stick the two straps of your quiver through.

The technique may vary depending what kind of quiver you have (and taking a decent picture is pretty difficult if you want to show off every angle at the same time!), but I'm confident this will work well enough for the home-made three-point quivers as well as the brown leather two-point quiver I have for Truestrike.
Now that these are out of my way, I've got my heart set on a new pair of pants in the category "The Empress' New Clothes". I'm still unsure whether that's a good title for a line of blog posts; it might give people the wrong impression. (That I'm a bit presumptuous or arrogant for calling myself Empress, I do not intend to pose naked because nobody can see my awesome clothes...)
But the Empress needs a new wardrobe, that's for sure. And with one-day workweeks coming up I might have enough time on my hands to make it a dress diary thing.
