We've lived in Tilburg for nearly a year and so far I haven't made any friends. The only people I know here are Anna_Xanaphia (who we still need to invite for dinner), Yuri from the Summoning (not the type of person I'd invite over for a good conversation), the guys from swordfighting (do they even drink tea?) and my colleagues from work (I'm too professional to pour out my heart's desire and woes while we're working).

In short: no friends in the 'hood.
The closest people (geographically) that are already my friends are of course Nexxus and Dolphirl (45 minutes by bike) and Palanthe (90 minutes by public transport). Arguably, Nijmegen and Culemborg are relatively close by (1 hour by train) but then so is my mom (same). And the expenses can pile up even if it's "just" 15 euro per return trip.

As it's not easy to hop on a bike and have a cup of unexpected tea and we never seem to get close to the neighbours, I was looking for ways to find a few friends.
As far as I know, there's a few ways to make friends. Join a club, go to a school, or go to sports. Well, as far as my sports goes the boys aren't people I'd hang out with most of the time, and since my school is in Rotterdam, my friends from there also live in that area.

Well, I could still join a club...

...which is how I signed up for "Basis cursus Patchwork" this morning at the Open House from our local quilt shop. It's a pretty traditional shop but they do a ton of workshops. They served coffee and pie for the Open House. And the best part is their Wednesday Bee, where you can walk in on Wednesday morning and for two euro spend three hours working on your quilt or your knitting, or whatever you want. And I suspect there will be tea.
Here's to hoping I meet some new people...

I hope you can find some new friends in your neighbourhood. You are a great person to get to know better.... Good luck befriending people there.

I would've invited you over for tea earlier, had I known you like it so much. If it's a comfort; if you are ever going to be in the vicinity of Utrecht/Zeist, you are welcome for tea at my place.... and seeing that my boyfriend lives in Eindhoven; perhaps we can arrange something there in the future (would have to discuss it with him too, though). Whatcha think?

In a case like this I wish some spells of Harry Potter could exist.
"Verschijnselen" would be very handy when friends live further away.
