Although it's been almost a week now, I still would like to write down this adventure! It's also a perfect opportunity to promote the club, so why not, eh?

It had been Siem who had found the advertisement. Some dinky tavern near the foot of the Vriesbergen had a notice board, and Siem read it aloud. Yfke nodded. "Fine, we'll go."

"Looking for adventurers!
Trouble and unsafe circumstances in Dreven and Wyrm & Lindt require more research. Be thou brave, in posession of a strong sword and fists of steel or a sharp mind and healing hands, please join the Seventh Company of the Second Regiment of the Roodlaarzen on the sixth day of the Rainmonth on the clearing near the inn known as Den Gullen Lach.

Luitenant Van Gelder"

"Why did you want to look into this again?" Yfke had asked as they had descended the mountainside. "I mean, two of your brothers became Roodlaarzen, and look at what it brought them."
"I'm not looking to join the Roodlaarzen." Siem had replied. "I am looking for someone. I think he's there. This Van Gelder might be a good starting point."
Yfke had shrugged. She'd come along, if only to keep Siem safe. She'd been working as a hunter back home, but as jobs went being a hunter was pretty much a job you could do anywhere. No doubt there were deer in Houthof and Wyrm & Lindt and Dreven and everywhere but in Orkenslagt.

They found the Roodlaarzen practicing, or exercising, or whatever the military term was. A good number of people had turned out to the call, even a gnome with a ridiculous pair of goggles on his forehead and what looked to be stinking half-elf. Van Gelder was a big man, though not very tall. A big bushy mustache took up half his face, and he greeted them with some apprehension. "You're it? Well, I suppose you'll have to do."
He called the rest of the Roodlaarzen, who seemed to be still in training, to rest and the group went into the forest. There, half the Roodlaarzen went into the bushes, the other half crossed the clearing and disappeared there. Yfke didn't quite understand what was going on, but Van Gelder said they were looking for robbers.
As the two groups didn't seem to be returning any time soon, Van Gelder said they should split up into two groups to find the robbers as well.

Yfke was quick to choose the group where Van Gelder was in. There was a big pouch filled with money on his belt, and the stinking half-elf was in the other group. Siem joined them, as well as a man in a kilt, a man in a chainmail and a Priestess of the Blue Moon. The gnome and several others joined the other group.
As soon as they were off into the forest, Van Gelder bolted. It seemed like he was shouting at someone, and by the time the rest had run after him, the man was gone. Near a steep hillside there was no sign of a tumble, so Yfke and a hooded man in black chose a different path, hoping to find the man back. Alas, there was no sign of him.

An hour later, they were still trudging along when they came upon a woman trading potions. Yfke spent quite a few crets on several potions, and pointed out to Siem where she'd put the healing potion.
"Before we go on, what's the dealio?" Yfke asked. "Van Gelder is gone. We haven't found any sign of any robbers and the rest of the Roodlaarzen have vanished as well."
The Volkmar-follower in chainmail, nicknamed Blikkie by the rest of them, made a long speech about honour. Yfke lost track soon enough.
To her surprise, the man in black that had been tracking and pointing out the paths to take, had taken down his hood and he'd sported elf ears as well! They had not hit it off, and the elf had seemed insulted by her ignorance and prejudice about elves. As they set out again, Yfke wanted to try and understand where he was coming from.
"Can I ask you something?" she asked. When he nodded, she said; "Doesn't it hurt, to have your ears cut in that fashion? I mean, why do they even make them that pointy?"
The half-elf shot her a deadly look and walked off, taking up a different position in the group, far, far away from Yfke. "I was curious!" she called after him.

Their walk finally yielded some results: several robbers ambushed them. Lewellan in the kilt was wounded, but soon the robbers were disposed of. They were as poor as they were dead...that is to say: 'very'.
They continued, and soon it became apparant that Ogrim the Volkmar follower was not a man of his word. Although he threatened to hit Yfke if she called him Blikkie one more time, he never did, and he'd rather let a robber bleed to death than finish his misery. When they came upon two frightened lizardmen with an egg, he was ready to kill the couple and smash their egg, but the rest stopped him before he could harm the poor beasts.

When they did find Van Gelder, the poor man was lying on an altar of sorts, surrounded by two dancing women. "Witches!" Blikkie spat. But as soon as he confronted them, his demeanor changed. Fali the archer was no different, and Siem urged Yfke to stay away from the women, but it was too late and even Yfke fell under their charm.
The witches wanted to bring Van Gelder into the ruins of a nearby tower, and those under their charm helped the wounded man towards the building. A struggle followed, which lasted long enough for some to snap out of the enchantment. Others were taken hostage.

"I say we cut our losses and get out of here." Yfke said.
"I can see your point when it comes to Blikkie, but Lewellan is a decent guy. We can't just leave him behind." Siem replied.
Yfke picked up the Roodlaarzen tabbard Blikkie had dropped in the struggle, and tucked it into her belt. "We can just say they died. I'll drop off the tabbard at the next Roodlaarzen outpost, maybe get a finder's fee."
The others were already going towards the tower. Yfke sighed, and nocked an arrow to her bow.

Again robbers came out of the tower, they fought like lions. Siem fell to their blades, and Yfke couldn't get to her. Three robbers picked her body up. "Come into the tower with us." they told her. "You'll be healed there."
"Siem!" Yfke shouted helplessly, as her friend was taken away. The situation was dire. She was running out of arrows.
The other group found them as well, but they weren't much help. Some of their groupm were captured as well, and finally something really strange happened. A demon appeared, and just transported the last few into the tower, including Yfke.

There was a well-dressed gentleman, speaking in soft terms about being invited and there being a party, and Yfke aimed an arrow at his head. "Let us go!"
Two imps, who had been playing around the man, tried to intervene, step in between the arrow and Yfke, and then the demon was back, and mayhem followed. The demon wasn't happy with the man, and confusion followed. One of the imps was killed and an orb or ball it was playing with was secreted into Jinni's bag.
How they escaped is still a mystery (I forgot!) but finally, finally, some of them could leave. And just as they crossed the nearby clearing, a group of Roodlaarzen ran into them. A brave sergeant was briefed on the situation, and he lead his men towards the tower. Yfke tried to convince Siem to leave them to it, but Siem had made up her mind to help them.
As the final prisoners escaped the ruins of the tower, the Roodlaarzen charged inside, hoping to kill whatever was lurking in the darkness -- only to never be heard from again.

As the group ran down the path, hoping to escape the forest, Yfke cornered Blikkie. "I saw you take the contents of Van Gelder's pouch." she said, twisting his shirt tightly.
"I think it's only fair if you share it with all of us." Siem piped up.
"We all risked our lives." Jinni, the priestess of the Blue Moon said.
Hesitantly, Blikkie started digging up the crets from his pouch, ladling them into Siem's hands. Yfke started handing out pents (5 cret pieces) to people. Finally, there was one left. "And this one's mine." she said, pocketing the last bit of money. "Let's go find a drink."

The adventure, although it started off rather tame because of navigation difficulties, ended with one very big WTF scene. Our quest to find the robbers failed rather miserably as the robbers found us time and again. And then there was the final confrontation near the ruins, with the demon and the imps and the ball, and everyone being healed by a frickin' demon... just not making any sense at all, but being so cool. It definitely left all the players with a "What just happened?" feeling!

Our next event is in two weeks, and we're still looking for some monsters but (new) players are always welcome! We will have a Bar night combined with a short adventure afterwards in Oosterbeek on 15 & 16 September. Schrijf je hier in!
