The long, long weekend

anastaszia and her Shurf where we had great fun with many awesome people.
Before we went to City-That-Is-Bane-To-Public-Transport (it's an hour-and-a-half trip, which is ridiculous for the distance traveled) I worked on a gift for the Calennar. I should be able to finish it today, it's not as much work as I feared it would be and work is progressing nicely as long as the Singer doesn't overheat. (The machine gets warm and then it slows down, this is probably really bad for it, but it's the best satin stitch we have in the house. I just need to take a break more often!)
With the Maerquin barnight turning unexpectedly into a Short Adventure and it being rescheduled to the Pentecost weekend next week, my weekend is completely empty. I had pondered going to the fabric market tomorrow, but I really cannot spare the money for new fabrics if I can cannibalise the fabrics from my haori.
I'll explain.
Last year I made this awesome costume you see to the right. This year I finished the chainmail and changed the gambeson so I could move better in it. I also realised the gambeson is too short, but I don't have enough fabric anymore to lengthen it and I can't make a new one (no time, no money).
The overcoat (I call it a haori, but it's not officially one) is from the same colour green linen, and though it looks lovely, the shoulders have drooped a bit and the trim has shrunk while the fabric hasn't. No amount of pressing fixed this, so the overcoat looks a bit strange.
I might just use the fabric from the haori/overcoat to lengthen the gambeson. Use what you have, right? And I really need to, as you can see in this picture. The belts pull everything up so my gambeson doesn't really cover my legs. I also will make a kidney-belt to go over the chainmail to hold my weapons, because This Will Not Do. I want to look more like a Northman (though maybe less rugged). I will probably add a surcoat (linen) later.
I might not / probably should not get around to it this weekend, in part because I will need to wear this outfit next weekend to Basel for the Mauvetian Frühlingsspielen and I can hardly cannibalise the top layer without having another to replace it with. Still, the weekend is not even officially started yet, but NoKey is at home since his office is closed and our agenda's are blank. Kat is coming over for dinner tonight and we want to pick up some practice weapons for my swordfighting at Zwaard & Volk today.
