Last night just as I was starting on dinner, I heard a very loud BOOM. At first I thought it was with the neighbours, as we have wooden floors and things like these could very well be heard nextdoor. Lisa was completely shaken, so I calmed her first and then went to look.

I found my sewing desk in quite a state:

Please excuse fuzzy picture!

Glad to not have been working there at that time, I noted that yes, the boom was from our house. Gee, the wall looks really bad. Let's take a picture and then continue on dinner.
(At least it wasn't anything like the Great Crash at Lenny's place, right?)

The plugs have been pulled from the wall, taking a bit of plaster with them.

I sure hope this is not what's going to happen to our long shelf with administration folders in the living room. My sewing machines are probably fine, I'll be able to tell more once I dig them out from under the books. I guess I'll have to store the books elsewhere.
NoKey already gave me some tips on how to re-attach everything. "Just put some alabastine into the wall and put the plugs in that. They'll never come out again."
I have other things to attend to today, so I might not get around to that just yet.

Incidentally, dinner wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I am of the opinion that every cook should know a how to cook a good tomato sauce. Maybe I've just read too much Patricia Cornwell. In any case, it was far too watery and I probably didn't have enough wine while cooking (it's an Italian thing). Maybe I'll try again with tomatoes that have actually seen the sun in their life.

I have never been able to make a tomato sauce from tomatoes. It always comes out watery and colourless. Which is why I use packets to help me now.

Damn... These aren't cardboard walls, are they?

Holle gipswandje als ik de foto goed zie?

Die zijn altijd een ramp om planken ed. goed in te bevestigen.
Ik vertrouw ze wat dat betreft eigenlijk nooit.

Omg, that totally happened to me a few years back! Terrifying, I was also looking at the debris of books on my desk thinking, damn, I'm glad I wasn't sitting there!

I'm just glad the really beautiful and really expensive books aren't damaged (Dressing A Galaxy, making of the Star Wars Costumes for instance!).

The total damage to the machines: a bit of the wires that guide the threads of my locker is bent, but I'm glad it's not worse, and the light in my sewing machine has been loosened, I thought it was broken but it turned itself back on when I was working on the machine yesterday.

Jemig, hier zou ik knap chagrijnig van worden.
Er zou een verbod moeten komen op spontaan naar beneden vallende planken...

Not fun. Are they 'solid' brick-and-plaster walls or just plasterboard?

For tomato sauce I usually use one 500 cc pack of sieved tomatoes with one of the larger sized cans of tomato paste. I gather that it needs to reduce down quite a bit when you use fresh tomatoes though.
