2012 - Year of the WIP
Jan. 3rd, 2012 02:38 pmAs I have declared before, this year I will get rid of all the WIPs! Steelweaver calls them UFO's. Let's get our terminology straight, shall we?
UFO - UnFinished Object
WIP - Work in Progress
Technically, since I'm no longer working on them at this time, they're not even WIPs but have even degraded more to the low status of UFO (which begs the question, what is the half-life of a WIP?)
I had gathered all WIPs into a box labeled WIP in the hopes to be able to forget about them but truth be told, I wanted to get rid of them as soon as I could. I dragged the box out from behind the desk and sorted through them. Thank goodness, at least five of the WIPs in the box were NoKey's projects.
The rest will suffer my work this year and you will find them under the snippety-snappety.

UFO 1: Ragged hood
From the Lanelle-and-Hagor series. We had planned to return from the forest in torn and mended clothes. There's several UFO's from this series but this polyester hood? Discard!
The scraps of linen and wool will be saved for other projects and repairs.
Next!

UFO 2: Lanelle's tunic
Another one in the Lanelle-and-Hagor series. I ripped up my old Lanelle tunic -- but since what happened to Lanelle I will no longer be requiring these rags for Truestrike. I am somewhat hesitant to get rid of them though, the fabric is wool for the body, and the shape is good. The lining, a red cotton, could be better, but I'm willing to save & finish this.

UFO 3: Hagor's Tunic
And the final piece in the Lanelle-and-Hagor collection. This was a cotton t-tunic with side gores for Keffie. I'm not going to finish this for him, but he might. After a phonecall it was decided that this UFO will find a new home @Keffie's place. Next!

UFO 4: Silk corset
After my pink corset, but with a slightly altered pattern. It's a black silk, stitched with purple thread and was meant as a replacement for my pink bodys. Now that I've lost 10 kgs, I doubt it will still fit and the pattern wasn't that great to start with. I'm a bit hesitant to part with the fabric, but I fear this particular UFO will just never fit me. Into the bin it is, and NEXT!

UFO 5: Herringbone twill pants
This is one of three fabrics I bought for Anemoona in September of 2009. She sewed me 2 pairs of pants, both of which I still wear despite having lost so much weight. She advised me to keep this fabric until my weight had settled a bit. It has, by now, but I'm preparing for another weight loss session (Goal: another 10 kilo's down by July).
The wool is still uncut, so I'm not going to throw this out, but I'm wondering if and when I should pick this up to finish. Probably somewhere after Drachenfest.

UFO 6: Aes Sedai Shawl
An embroidery project. I bought the shawl a few years back and figured it only needed the Flame of Tar Valon in the back. NoKey made the pattern from a scan, and I was hoping to cross-stitch it on solid. It would be a perfect project to do in the train, but I'm not sure about the cross-stitching.
Thoughts?

UFO 7: Summer Coat
The summer coat (pattern by Burda). The outside (solid blue poly-cotton blend) is completely done, but the lining (cornflower blue linen with flowers) still needs its sleeves set. I've already learned a lot more about shaping collars but this can no longer be done with this coat. I've tried on the exterior layer and it still fits well enough (blast you, hips!) but it could do with some shoulderpadding. To be finished.

UFO 8: Mantua
This is my mantua fiasco from er... 2008? The fabric is a creamy soft wool, which I would love to re-use in another project. I still have the rest of the fabric, so I should be able to do something really lovely with this. My initial thoughts were to make a new Accepted's dress, with coloured wool bands at the hem and cuffs, but I might not have enough fabric for that (also: piecing in wool... very period but maybe not so pretty). I could also make a light coat out of it with a very flared skirt. Ideas?

UFO 9: Project Elf Chain
My elven chainmail still needs to have its sleeves and armpits done. That'll be fun.

UFO 10: Three Tunics
I think these stem from the Previous Dolle Griet Age. Three tunics with contrasting facings on the outside. I can always donate these to Maerquin once they're done. The maroon one is the furthest along, but I should be able to finish these soon enough.
And for the rest:
- New pants
- A few new blouses, maybe
- A blouse for Nathreee
- A blouse for my back-up character for Maerquin
- A summer dress or two for my mother
- and any other orders that come in.

Date: 2012-01-03 02:47 pm (UTC)I have to admit I used some white wool for a shift, but that may not be your thing. It's my go-to for winter occasions though. You could hang onto it for some adventures in vegetable dyeing? Or make a jacket with a longish peplum sort of thing? Lining something would work as well, but may be a bit of a shame of the nice wool.
