Packing up
Oct. 23rd, 2011 12:01 pmYesterday went smoothly. Some people were a bit early, but I entertained JW,
wannabe_bitch,
twilightbanana and
steelweaver with tea and filled speculaastaart until
nathreee and her Remco arrived. The kitties were amused but unused to the company.
We made a little train down the stairs and emptied the clothesroom of all the boxes I had assembled and the bits of cupboard that would be coming along. Remco had some difficulty backing his car into a tight spot near the door -- his car is just huge!
When everything was dragged down the stairs we had very nearly filled the two available cars to the brim. I'm pretty sure the Peugeot I rented couldn't have held another box, for fear of losing sight in the right-hand-side mirror, but perhaps Remco's Seat could have been stuffed a bit more. I picked up two bags of furs and the oscilloscope to fix that, and we had some soup to celebrate before driving off.
In Tilburg we were very lucky to find two free parking spots right in front of the door, so unloading was easy. After a quick tour of the house, we brought everything up the two flights of stairs to the attic room. NoKey had removed the plastic at my request and everything piled in easily. I made sure to put the labels facing forward. I also found out we have a leak in the roof there, which is why the wall in the bedroom is wet...
Today we're packing up the rest of the larp stuff to make pretty damn sure all the larp stuff will be in Tilburg. I don't want any mistakes of: 'I think that's in Tilburg' only to find out it was in Rotterdam after all. We're probably not going to be moving house until after Maerquin (*groan*). We're aiming around NoKey's birthday (first week of December), but we still have to check the calender to make sure. When the larp stuff is gone, there's still plenty of stuff left to pack up and when the ceiling is painted (now that all the sanding is done) I can start on painting the walls. After that it's time to buy and make the floor and then visit the Ikea some more for CD-cupboards and bookcases.
Most of our current furniture is pretty huge for the house we're renting. The 60-cm deep bookcases (that had the books piled 2 books deep!) are probably going to have to go and be replaced by 30-cm deep ones. The nearly 3 meter long clothes cupboard will never even fit in the new house. We're going to have to store that in the attic, a Shurguard, or leave it with a carpenter to have it remade into a smaller model. We're not sure about where the sewing room will be yet, and whether our dining table (which is horribly sized and gives me sore shoulders if I'm working at it) will even fit anywhere.
In short: still a lot of insecurities about why, when & what. This is the most stressful for me: if I don't have any idea of what and when I'll get really cranky. If I know when, I can haul ass and make sure it happens. But at least it's a start.
