With the bloody hot weather we've been experiencing, I've been trying to "recycle" some water. Whenever I use water in the sink that doesn't have any toxins or soap in it, I catch the water for watering the balcony plants. Water levels in the Dutch rivers have been reported to be low, and my balcony faces south so my plants are exceptionally thirsty. They've got central concrete heating (the concrete is slow to cool down even at night).

Leftover tea, coffee pot rinse-out water, the water I use to clean mushrooms with, etc. all goes into a jug and into the garden. So far, it doesn't look like anything is complaining, although I take care not to give the plants too much coffee. It can't be very good for them.

In any case, berries are busily being produced, the paprika plant is starting to flower with a promise of MORE to come, and the first tomatoes are growing.

July Wineberry

The wineberry. I've got more pods than ever before and if you take a closer look you can just see the first berries forming inside. Noms!

July Tomatoes

First and largest tomato, though I can't tell what those spots are. Lots of flowers still forming and growing into more tomatoes.

July paprika

The pepper plant in bloom (look at where Lisa ate at it!). Last year we had a similar amount of flowers, though not all developed fully. I'm trying hard to keep the soil somewhat moist but it's a bit hard since it's a small pot. Don't want to drown the plant either, it loves the full sun.

Curious what these will all do in the coming weeks. Ah nature, you spoil us city-dwellers.
