Cycling trip!
May. 24th, 2010 08:25 pmSo what do we do on the second day of Pentecost (we have two in the Netherlands), when you are still sore from a larp?
We cycle 45 kilometers, of course. Duh. Should've seen that one coming.
The weather today was lovely and I had unpacked and sorted and NoKey had unpacked his bags from the Moots and the Maerquin special he'd visited yesterday, and we were done unpacking and sorting. The weather was fine.
Around two we smeared the suntan lotion, hopped onto the recument and drove off into the sunlight. It was good! Met two other recumbents en route to Nieuwerkerk but near Moordrecht our roads split. We went right where they went left, and continued on.
In Gouda we turned southward, setting a course for Bergambacht since Stolwijk was not yet on the signs. This road was very very smooth, its asphalt nice and warm, and the road dipping down from the dike.
In Stolwijk we were greeted by hoom-pa-pa music, but we turned right towards Berkenwoude. Where we had followed the provincial roads towards Stolwijk, we now turned over a new leaf as we set our course westward. Behold:

Too bad about the cars that overtook us, but the surroundings more than made up for it. NoKey said "you can can the nostalgia here". Saw many lovely farmsteads we'd love to live in, but none we could afford.
In Berkewoude we stopped for a second tea picknick near this picturesque place.

There was a coot family there. Originally I thought they were cute. After seeing the pictures and looking at the young a little more closely, I just think they're plain scary. Any bird with red eyes is a little creepy. Any bird having young that look like a crossing between a lava demon and Pinhead is just plain scary.

We cycled towards the Loetbos and had an early dinner at Café De Loet. I opted for the steak, but dinner was quite heavy. Slowly but surely our bikes would take us home. Sadly, the lovely picturesque landscape was slowly turning to city jungle, and by the time we'd passed Ouderkerk (where I come from) and drove into Krimpen a/d IJssel I was getting quite tired.
Our last hurdle to climb was the Algera bridge, but once we'd passed the subway line and were near home I was so ready to fall off my bike and sleep in the street!
So. Larp one day, cycle 45 kilometers the next. Not bad, considering it took most of the afternoon, was very relaxing, and is good for us. Actually, it was very, very, very good.
I want to shower and then fall over now. I'll start on my Aon report tomorrow when I ride the early train to Amsterdam.
