Indecisive

These days I drive myself crazy, but as far as I can tell NoKey is not yet affected by my utter indecisiveness. I should be sewing, working on some outfits I've been working on, but the deadline creeps closer while I get distracted by movies to watch while weaving chainmail (update in three days!) or games to play. I've been logging a lot of hours on the Open Source variety of TransportTycoon DeLuxe: OpenTTD. Sixteen years after Transport Tycoon, this game still has me captivated as colourful trains snake through the landscape, delivering iron ore to steel mills so I can transport the steel to a factory, which in turn creates goods that large cities are greedy about. Airplanes fly like lazy bumblebees through the screen as a bus starting up honks its horn. Familiar sounds of a perfect game that never ceases to bore me -- and that is precisely its problem. It's far too addictive.

Sewing isn't the only thing that I'm indecisive about. I've caught the eye of 'relationship managers', the guys who sell us professionals to the customers. Roaming about as pimps they snag unsuspecting people of the planning board and offer them to companies in the most obscure locations. I pray I won't have to go anywhere near Amsterdam or Diemen, as it's traffic hell and public transport isn't much better around there. The only positive thing that can be said about it is that the trip would be long enough to warrant substantial handsewing, chainmailing, or even laptop-writing (gaming?). If I have a seat.

The relationship managers are circling me like buzzards again. I've been offered to one, I think by my unitmanager Huib, for a job in Den Haag. That trip would take 45 to 60 minutes, enough to do some crafts in the train. I've also been offered at a place in De Meern, near Utrecht, which would be more than an hour by train. By car it's a little better, with a suspected travel time of 25 minutes, but two major traffic bottlenecks, if not three, on the way.
This means I'm indecisive in hoping which one it will be. Do I want to get stuck at a government branch in Den Haag again? Well it's better than going to De Meern. But then, if I get the spot in De Meern I could get a car. Not that I really want to get a car, I've been doing fine without one in this job for three years now, but I would like to get a car. Or not.

Meanwhile, I'm eyeing assignments in Apeldoorn, knowing the forests are very beautiful around there, but I know NoKey likes his new job so much it's not very likely we'll be leaving the vicinity of Rotterdam any time soon.

I guess what it all boils down to is stress. Again. I am too stressed out to focus on one thing for very long, so I display escapist behavior by playing games in stead of sewing. It relaxes me, but it doesn't make the stressy things go away. Of course, my job will be a lot less stressful after April first, and my hope is settled on that!

Yoeri, who is also leaving the team, would like to get a different car, so he's offering his leased Opel Corsa up on the Sogeti Forums. It sounds very tempting. So...am I hoping for De Meern? Or not? Maybe both.

Just wait and see what will happen.

Cars are holes to throw your money into. Leasing them is even worse than that - you're renting a thing that you won't ever own.

I actually miss being able to get around withouta car. No cars is my vote, if you';re asking.

I'm so happy I've been able to get around without one these past x years, but the truth is: people think you're crazy for not wanting a car.
Heh.
Well, I've been called crazy for other things. And rightly so!

I concur!

Me and the girl had a discussion about it today, when I am going to get my driving license. But the only real reason for a car for me is to get and from a larp and not much else.

Its not that cars are my thing or anything, so yeah, I am crazy to.

And about the Tycoon game thing. I try to stay away from total war and Anno 1404...those games drag me in!

*grin* Matthijs is partly responsible for your addiction. He helps build openTTD.

About the car thing, well... whatever rocks your socks. Wanting a car for the sake of having a car is stupid, I think. But if you need one, you'll have to get one. It might come in handy for other things (like larp) too.
Of course I was as fortunate as to get the old car from my mom. Not much fuss about finding one. I love the freedom it gives me. Public transport just doesn't work when you're going out late and still want to get back home (and you're not living somewhere on the 'nachtnet').

Good luck with battling the indecisiveness.

Go Matthijs! I love OpenTTD.

We sometimes hire a car for large events where we do a lot of campbuilding, like Omen or VA, but other than that we manage fine without one.
