janestarzThe weather, though cold, has perked up a bit. The wind has been tuned down and the rain has stopped, so I was glad to hop onto my bike this morning to get to work. I had some trouble finding a pair of pants I could wear at work, but I took the wrap-pants along.
I mailed a parcel for DG and my declaration for my bike (I can get up to € 750,-- repaid from my gross paycheck, bypassing taxes on this amount, thanks to a tax law that is supposed to drive people from their cars onto bicycles for their commute) and drove off into the pre-morning night.
My mp3-player wasn't working, I assumed the batteries were out. But I can drive without music, although my mind most of the time goes into make-music-yourself mode and I start to think lines from a chorus and get stuck on repeat. I was switching between "She's a maniac, maaaaaaniac..." (Flashdance, Irene Cara) and some riff from Nightwish for most of the way.
Cycling didn't go too well. I had trouble getting enough air and my legs were, after two weeks of taking the bus, unused to the abuse. I guess the cold had something to do with it. When I passed the Siemens screen near the A12 highway, it said it was 4°C. Brr! (But perfect for cycling: insta-airco!)
When I passed Bleiswijk I suddenly realised that I had forgotten to bring the key to my locker here. In the changing rooms are several lockers where you can store your clothes and I've stashed a blouse and jacket and a stick of deodorant in there. But if I don't bring the key...no acces.
Luckily I chose to wear a Nike very-polyester running longsleeve, and that dries in 20 minutes. My too-pink vest is not dry yet, but I've hung it over the back of my chair and though I am chilled, I can manage without for a little while longer.
