Maretak: corset panels
Dec. 28th, 2008 06:28 pmFinally I got around to working on Maretak's corset. I've been wanting to use the four days I had off around Christmas to work on her corset, but only today did I have enough time to do so, what with all the dinners we had to attend. You can't quite get started on something this big if you know you will have to leave for Christmas dinner in an hour or four.
This afternoon I found myself procrastinating - not really dodging sewing, but sewing on nonsensical whims so I wouldn't have to start the hard stuff. Kicked myself into gear!
I made some adjustments to the pattern and finally got around to cutting out the corset panels. The fabric is a quilting cotton from Kona Bay quilting fabrics. It was easy to pattern-match as the back still holds the pattern quite well and the bondaweb/vliesofix shows enough.
Here's a picture of all the pattern pieces, cut and ready to go. You can spy the pattern matching if you're lucky! Even the front modesty panel has its pattern pieced to the mid-front!

I'm unsure if I will make a back modesty panel. I will probably use wide enough satin lacing so you can't really see it anyway.
The pattern piecing was fun to do, but stressful (is this piece the right way up? Where's #3? Shouldn't it be on the other side...O no, did I make a mistake?) and uses up a lot of fabric! It worked out in the end without mistakes. Now it's just a matter of fusing these pieces to the coutil and sewing the pieces together very, very carefully!
Ah, and adding boning and all the other fiddly bits, yes.
