You know, posts like these:

I am making my first corset with a busk closure. I ordered the busk thinking that it would come with installment directions but no. So here i am with a oct 15 deadline and no clue how to put this in.

Oy. I think that might get me booted from that community. But at least she could be more clear about what she really wants. This just makes me want to shoot her for being stupid and unclear. You could probably decorate your christmas tree with that busk, but I'm guessing she'd like us to take her by the hand and show her how to put it into a corset.

Here's to hoping she also ordered boning!
Sewing all day makes me snarky.

1) Take lower portion of busk in left hand
2) Put busk up to face.
3) Take right hand and pull top of busk away from face
4) Release.

Either that, or Halloween is early this year.

Makes you wonder. What are you going to do for halloween this year? I think I'll just grab a drink and enjoy the horrow shows in advanced_sewing, corsetmakers and of course our all-time favorite: sew_hip!

On the one hand, I'm glad we don't celebrate Hallowe'en over here, although the Dutch are doing their utmost best to import the horribly Americanized way of celebrating it. Hallowe'en would mean crappy costumes, nibby customers, and people wanting help for free (or worse: costumes for free) by impossible deadlines.

On the other hand, the boost to commerce it would mean is no mean feat. Especially since I make costumes and they're good. At least, I like 'em :-)

Haha good one. Doesn't she have a pattern with instructions? The corset patters I have come with instructions.

And then there's still google. If she can type "I'm lazy, please do everything for me" she can also insert "busk instructions" in google.

Heh, reminds me of my time in science (Fiction) chatrooms. Kids would come in and ask us for help with their projects. Some questioning would usually lead to the full question which was "I don't know science lol, could you do my report for me?"

I recently read A Brief Synopsis of The Lord of the Rings (http://flyingmoose.org/tolksarc/homework.htm) after a debate in kass_rants' journal. She frequently gets e-mailed by people who want her to do all the work.

The idea behind the brief synopsis that was linked above is the following: (copied from that site)
"One of the often-recurring requests on the newsgroup rec.arts.books.tolkien is from students requesting a synopsis of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic work The Lord of the Rings. The work is extremely long, and because of this many students simply can't find the time to give the work a thorough reading before giving a written report on it. In the interests of cutting down the number of requests for this material, I have written a short synopsis of the three volumes which make up the Lord of the Rings as well as an accompanying synopsis for Tolkien's posthumous book The Silmarillion.

As an added supplement, I have also listed some possible topics for term-papers and book reports for those who don't feel a desire to come up with their own.

Of course, I feel compelled to point out that a much better understanding of Tolkien's work can be achieved by reading the actual books; it's well worth the effort. I can wholeheartily recommend reading it. It will shed new light on the average teenager's understanding of the Lord of the Rings.
