I see that's how your shawl turned out. I'm wondering, did you knit it with one type of "steek" over the whole pen and then with another over the whole pen or switching between "recht" and "averecht" (or whatever they are called) at everey loop (lusje)? (I'm not good at English knitting expressions.)
Just curious. ^_^ The picture looks very impressive with the text added to it.
The shawl was knitted of sixteen stitches. The first stitch is always a right, but isn't knitted, just transferred to the other pen. Then you continue with a left, then a right etc. You'll need an even number of stitches because the last one has to be a left (averechts) stitch.
I had to re-learn knitting myself, doing some vital things wrong. The first pic I showed you of this shawl was with one pen right, one pen left, and the shawl will curl up. I also put the right pen in in the wrong side of the left pen, adding extra strain on the knitting. Always stay on your side of the left pen.
I also knitted one just like this, only in black and white of 24 stitches, for every day use. Too bad it's wool and itches like fucking hell.
It was the picture that made me wonder. I switched stitches by whole pens first and I conculted my mom over the phone only after I finished the shawl. I reknitted the whole thing. It looks good now and so does yours. Wouldn't mind seeing it in real life. ^_^
You finished it? Woohoo! I recall you saying actually finding the time to finish something was rare so yay you! I also had to unravel 3 balls out of four, and re-knit. But I won't unlearn knitting so easily anymore, I think.
Check the pictures (http://www.janestarz.com/various/LIEspecial/) for a coloured picture of the scarf. It's bound to be in there somewhere. This pic was heavily photoshopped.
Actually I finished it twice. First time the wrong way and the second the right way. ^_^;;;
Knitting a little bit before going to sleep helps and I'd like to knit another shawl, but the wool is so expensive. (Well, anything is exspensive for me right now. ;) )
