Hand sewing
Jun. 27th, 2012 10:14 amAs you probably know, I'm pretty swamped with sewing work. However, I seem to be making a very conscious choice to do a LOT of handsewing lately.
With NoKey's surgery around the corner, I had prepared Marianne's new bag so I could do some handsewing on it as he was on the table. This was only logical, as I could probably sew the lining in with the machine but it would give me a big headache.
Then there's the gift for the avatar, which is finished except for some flannel stitching around the reverse appliquè at the hem. More handsewing coming up there.
I also chose to make a new partlet with a hood (wait, what?) but since it's the same upholstery velvet as the bag for Marianne, it is a headache to sew my machine. As it turns out, it's a much longer headache if you sew it by hand. *sigh* I will probably finish all the edges again on the sewing machine to make sure the lining doesn't peep out anywhere.
And before anyone asks: I'm making it because of my skin condition, and not because it's so darn cool to walk around with my hood up. Can't hold an umbrella overhead all the time.
Then there's the kidney belt I started on yesterday. It's made of leather with more leather, and because I made the Anarquendor logo on the front panel, I decided it would look better if I sewed it down by hand. The two layers are glued together with tix, but it will pull loose eventually. This type of leather would kill my sewing machine, and I must say I'm getting pretty good at pulling the needle through with my chain mail pliers.
(I R studying to become surgeon. Next time, I'm fixing NoKey myself! *evil wink*)
