It's been freezing for days and nights on end, and most of the Netherlands is already obsessed with a marathon called the "Elfstedentocht" (eleven cities tour). Yesterday it was really quite cold outside, with wind making the temperatures seem to frostbite any exposed skin.

Today was, in comparison at least, pretty warm. So warm in fact that I checked Nu.nl on my phone to see if it was still freezing. According to Nu.nl, the afternoon temperatures would still be -2°C, so still freezing. I had made hot cocoa (a small, one-and-a-half-mug thermos), a sandwich with peanut butter as is traditional and set out with my skates. Google Maps had provided me with several places where I might be able to skate and I sought out one in the North of Tilburg.

Said lake was indeed frozen, but there were no marks that anyone had shown any interest in it previously. I would be the first on the ice, which is always a very bad sign and a huge risk. I swallowed my pride, turned NoKey's bike around (mine has trouble with the chain) and rode back, stopping at GroenRijk for more birdfood. I was practically there already, so why not, eh?

No ice skating for me, but at least I got out and cycled for a bit.
