Inconvenienced by Winter
Feb. 6th, 2012 01:47 pmThe trains have finally resumed some kind of schedule, which is why I could get to Nijmegen yesterday for a meeting.
There are other inconveniences. I feed the birds more, because there's really nothing for them to eat. My bike broke down yesterday on the way home, and the house seems jolly cold all day. I only have one warm pair of pants out of a thick polyester, which needs a tumble in the washer.
In other news, the crack in our front window only grows larger while the sun heats the window and outside temperatures are below zero. Someone should probably be coming over for that today, leaving me bound to the house.
In the rear of the house, the large window allowing light into our dining appendix also lets out a lot of warmth (or lets in a lot of cold) and I can hardly get warm anymore. The frost has also shaken up the tiles behind the shed somehow, so now the door won't open fully anymore (it seems to grow worse as the cold temperatures persist). This means NoKey can't even take his Velomobiel to work even if he had wanted to, and it will get us into trouble with the garbage disposal soon enough. (I'm not going to wheel the kliko through the livingroom, I doubt it would even fit through the door!)
As I'm typing this, there's small sounds from the window as the crack inches its way towards the other side...
And there's nowhere I can go to go ice skating either! *sigh*
Ah winter, no perks and only downsides? Your sense of humour leaves something to be desired.
