Painted-on clothing -- now possible.
Jan. 26th, 2012 08:13 amI've recently started following the blog of
wendylady2 who does reviews of red carpets and couture shows. It's really quite interesting to see the monstrosities on the runway sometimes. Next springs fashion includes humoungous roses and hydrangea flowers on heads, jewel colours mix & match and lace insets, lace layers, lace everything.
It can also inspire me -- the lines these designers come up with are gorgeous -- and teach me about pattern drafting, never taking anything for granted, etc. It's not like I am suddenly to become fashionable because Helga the Freakish Giant will probably never make it to the runway so I was disqualified when I shot up to 190 cm tall with 133 cm hips.
Ahem, enough excuses to grant me a temporary reprieve from your scorn?
I've often ranted about artists designing clothes, armour, costume for fantasy games, especially when a customer gave me a picture and wanted a garment that would choke them or in another way be impossible to wear.
"It's painted on!" I ranted. "I can never make it work!"
This morning I found out that you can actually do the impossible if you're Donatella Versace. Look at this dress and tell me: how the hell does it stay up?!

Granted, there's something metal curving around the body, so that might be what's keeping the shape. It's also a very nearly sheer, thus light-weight fabric. But it's not like the model actually has boobs that will keep it up, especially with that curve at the side.
I am impressed (and scared of the repercussions).
On a side note, although this is infinitely more messy than wearing a Versace dress (depending on the amount of lipo needed to get into one), spray-on clothing now also is possible.
