B-b-b-ad costume
Aug. 17th, 2011 11:35 amThis weekend is Badger's Business, a small Firefly-themed, invite only event that was organised by Nathreee and Remco instead of a small celebration for their anniversary. Awesomesauce.
What I really regret is twofold. On one hand I regret having another weekend event that will prevent us making a headstart in the new house (it's about time we get some serious cracking done on it!). I live in a state of forced-guilt because my father is really pushing us to go and work on it. Plus, we've had the key for two weeks, and everyone is pestering us for a date when we'll be moving. I just want to get everything done but I can't witch the paint onto the walls.
The other regret I have is that because of the house, I didn't have time to finish my costume! I needed to make myself a browncoat and though I could easily abuse a simple pattern I have, I didn't even have time to start on it. It would be good practice to take the Simplicity pattern for the Matrix coat and draft a simple collar onto it (we've been working on collars in school), but I don't have time for that.
I'll have to make do with what I have. And what I have is a pretty crappy costume!
What's worse: I'm becoming a snob, who is used to having at least a fitting costume for the character. They're not all months of sweaty labour, but most fit the character. Jane Maria Xiao would definitely still have her browncoat. And I don't.
Right now I'll just have to make do with what I have:
- Brown pants -- I probably gained a bit of weight with the weird-ass eating schedule of the past two weeks, so I don't think I'll fit into Captain Tightpants-pants yet. Then I'll wear Frankie's be-braced pair.
- A "Jayne'stown, Canton" t-shirt and my "Blue Sun" t-shirt.
- A Maverick, provided the holster I ordered with Dragonskin will come in the mail before the end of the week...
- "Hugo" - my trusty Nerf Recon that'll win any argument -- still need a shoulder strap for this.
- A silly hat, a flat cap in brown suede
- And needs must: my suede summer coat which is slowly falling apart anyway.
Double feelings all around. But at least I won't have to go naked!
